Paneer in Mexican Gravy

I wanted to make something different with paneer today. I had lots of green capsicum at home. So, I created a fusion recipe today, Paneer in Mexican gravy. To make the rich and creamy, I have added some pista too:)

It really came out very well. I fell in love with white paneer immersed in serene, beautiful and pale green gravy:)

My kids were totally impressed and gave thumps up. So, am very happily sharing one more creation from my kitchen:)

Ingredients

Paneer – 200 gms
Yogurt – 1/2 cup
Salt to taste
Oil – 2 tsps
Cumin seeds ( jeera) – 1 tsp
Garam masala – 1/4th tsp

For the masala paste

Chopped capsicum – 2 cups
Green chillies – 3 – 4
Chopped coriander leaves – 1/4th cup
Chopped mint leaves – 1/4th cup
Garlic – 3-4 cloves
Onion – 1
Pista – 1/4th cup

Method

Grind everything mentioned for the masala to a smooth paste.

Cut the paneer into cubes or any desired shape.

Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds. When it starts spluttering, add the ground masala paste and sauté on a medium flame, till the oil starts separating.

Add yogurt, salt to taste and 1/2 cup of water in a bowl. Mix well till it becomes very smooth and add to the masala.

Mix well. Check for the seasonings. If it’s very thick, add some more water and let it simmer for few mins.

Add the paneer, mix gently, close the pan with a lid, reduce the flame and let it simmer for 10 mins.

  1. What Mexican spices you use to give this name Mexican gravy? Don’t you think name should be appropriate.

    1. I have made the masala paste as I would do to make Mexican Green Rice. That’s why I named it so.
