Today is the fourth day of Navrathri.
Divine mother is worshipped as Kushmanda today. Kushmanda means pumpkin. The significance of this form is that the whole creation is like a pumpkin. Like a pumpkin which has many seeds and each seed contain the potential to form a new pumpkin, the Divine mother contains the entire creations within her.
I made Thenga Manga Pattani Sundal ( coconut, mango and green peas sundal) as prasadam today:)
Dry Green peas – 2 cups
Chopped raw mangoes – 1 cup
Grated coconut- 1 cup
Oil – 1 tbsp
Mustard – 1 tsp
Hing – 1/4th tsp
Red chillies – 3-4
Curry leaves – few
Sambar powder – 1/2 tsp
Salt to taste
Wash and soak the peas for 2-3 hours.
Drain the peas, add fresh water and little salt. Pressure cook for 2-3 whistles. Peas should not become very soft.
Drain the cooked peas. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard. When it starts spluttering, add the red chillies, hing and curry leaves. Sauté for few seconds and add the cooked peas, chopped mango, sambar powder and salt to taste. Sauté for 3-4 mins. Add the grated coconut and mix well.
Serve the Sundal warm or at room temperature:)
