This will be probably the most easiest way to make healthy and yummy sambar in a jiffy. Few days back I shared my mom’s prized recipe for Instant Sambar Powder. It’s her own creation and she has made it for her own convenience.
Today, I sharing the recipe to make sambar with this powder. Mix, boil , temper and your sambar is ready. It can’t get easier than this, isn’t it? 🙂
Shallots ( sambar onions)- 12-15
Instant sambar powder – 4 tsps
Water – 4 to 4+1/2 cups
Jaggery – 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Oil – 2 tsps
Mustard – 1 tsp
Curry leaves – few
Hing ( asafoetida/ perungayam) – 1/4th tsp
Peel and wash the shallots.
Wash and chop the tomato.
Add the shallots, tomato, sambar powder, water, jaggery and salt to taste. Mix well.
Let it boil well till the vegetables are cooked and the gravy becomes thick and gets the sambar consistency.
Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard. When it starts spluttering, add curry leaves and hing. Sauté for few seconds and add the tempering to the sambar.
You can add any vegetable of your choice.
