Green Peas Chat

Evening snacks are important meal for children. It’s important to serve healthy and interesting snacks to wean them away from tempting junk foods. I made this protein rich, healthy and wholesome chat for my kids few weeks back. As always, it’s a very easy recipe to make and it requires only the basic ingredients available almost in everyone’s kitchen. Also, it can be made in a jiffy if you have a stock cooked peas. My kids loved this chatpata Peas Chat. Hope you all will like it too.
This being a protein rich snack, it’s very ideal to serve kids during the exam days when they really study hard and demand more snacks:)

Ingredients

Whole dry green Peas – 1 cup
Onion – 2 medium sized
Tomato – 2 medium sized
Carrot – 1
Turmeric powder- 1/4th tsp
Red chilli powder- 1 tsp
Cumin powder- 1 tsp
Dry amchur powder- 1/2 tsp
Chat masala – 3/4th tsp
Oil – 1 tbsp
Dates chutney – 6 tbsps
Chopped coriander leaves- 2 tbsps
Sev or cornflakes mixture- 4 tbsps

Method

Soak the whole green Peas overnight or for 6-8 hours.
Drain and add water again, little salt and pressure cook for 3 whistles or till its cooked just soft. Don’t over cook the peas. Peas should not become mashy.
Strain the cooked peas to remove the excess water. Keep it aside.
Wash, peel and grate carrot.
Peel, wash and chop onion finely.
Wash and chop tomato.

Heat oil in a pan. Add all the masala powders mentioned and sauté it on a low flame till you get a good aroma. Add the cooked peas and sauté for a minute. Add salt to taste and mix well.

Take a mixing bowl, add the sautéed peas, chop onion and tomato, grated carrot, dates chutney and mix well. Check for the seasonings.

Garnish with chopped coriander leaves, cornflakes mixture or sev and serve immediately.
